The candles, the cake, the smiles—is there anything more exciting than your baby’s very first birthday? It’s a special milestone that calls for an equally special party.

How to Choose the Perfect First Birthday Party Theme

Choosing a theme for your baby’s first birthday is totally different than pretty much any other age. Sure, they’ve got some interests and favorite toys, but they aren’t old enough to really have a say in what they want.

So, as parents, it’s up to us to pick the perfect theme that will capture their little heart and make for unforgettable memories. Here are a few quick tips to help you choose from the themes below:

  • What is your baby drawn to? Is there something that always makes your little one squeal for joy? (e.g. a particular character, or a favorite pet) That can be a great starting point for choosing a theme.
  • Take inspiration from your baby’s personality. If they’re bubbly and energetic – a carnival theme with a ball pit might be just the thing. Or if they’re more calm and love spending time in nature, you might want to consider a woodland or garden themed party.
  • Think outside the box. Who says you have to stick to something traditional like princesses or superheroes? Get creative and choose something that reflects your child’s unique personality.

Above all, remember that this party is more for the parents and family than it is for the baby. So don’t stress too much about elaborate decorations or activities. Try to choose a theme that you know will make your little one smile and go from there.
