Step-by-Step Directions:
To make things even easier for you, I created a simple photo guide below. For all measurements and a more detailed guide, check out the recipe card at the bottom of this page.
Step 1 – Cut each strawberry in half lengthwise and then trim a little bit off of the tip of the strawberry to make it flat. Set aside.
Step 2 – Slice the marshmallows in thirds along the width, to create 18 wide circles.
Step 3 – Skewer the grinch pieces in reverse order. Start with a mini marshmallow, then add a strawberry half, next a wide marshmallow circle, and finish with a grape. If necessary, adjust the fruit pieces so they are close together and enjoy!
Essential Tips:
Don’t skip these tips – read them before starting to avoid any potential mistakes.
- Make sure to cut along the length of the strawberries, so you they are more wide and shallow.
- If you don’t want the marshmallow slices to be sticky, you can toss them in a bit of powdered sugar mixed with a small amount of cornstarch.
- Make sure to use ripe strawberries, as they are easier to cut and taste sweeter.
- Don’t worry if your kabobs aren’t exactly the same size – it adds to the whimsical charm!
- If you want to reduce the refined sugar even further, you can substitute the large marshmallows with slices of banana.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, you can assemble the kabobs a few hours before serving. Just be sure to place them in an airtight container and refrigerate until ready to enjoy.
They are best eaten within 24 hours of assembly, as the fruit may start to get soft.
The number of fruit kabobs you’ll need depends on the size of your party and what other snacks you’re serving. For smaller buffets, plan on about 2 kabobs per person. Fun Ways to Engage Kids in Making the Kabobs
Making Grinch Fruit Kabobs can be a fantastic way to get your little ones excited about helping in the kitchen. Here’s how to make it a fun-filled Christmas activity:
- Create a Grinchy Playlist – Fill the air with a festive mood by playing your kiddo’s favorite Christmas tunes. “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” is a must!
- Grinch Dress-Up – Don a green apron, or better yet, wear a Grinchy Santa hat while preparing your kabobs. The sillier, the better!
- Fruity Art – Let them use the fruits to create their own Grinch faces on a plate before skewering them. Remember, it’s all about having fun!
- North Pole Delivery – After making the kabobs, let them deliver a few to friends and neighbors with a sweet printable tag and some holiday cheer. Spread the love!
Remember, the aim is to make lasting holiday memories. The sweet, Grinchy kabobs enjoyed together are just a bonus!
Showcasing Grinch Kabobs at a Christmas Party
Let’s get this party Who-ville approved! To make your Grinch Fruit Kabobs the star of the show
- Arrange them on a large white platter to let these vibrant characters truly pop
- Add a layer of extra mini marshmallows underneath for a snowy effect
- Garnish with some red candy heart sprinkles or on top for a festive touch
- Use a large Santa hat or Grinch plush as a centerpiece to tie in the theme
Don’t forget to serve some of these tasty snacks to round out your Grinchy display:
- Green and Red Grinch nougat for a soft, but sweet treat
- Classic sugar cookies with a green icing glaze for a Grinchy touch
- Reindeer cupcakes with pretzel antlers for a fun twist, and
- Sparkling red candied cranberries for a tart, but festive bite
How to Store Grinch Fruit Kabobs
These are best enjoyed on the same day you make them, but here are a few tips if you need to store them:
Make ahead: Make the kabobs as directed up to a day in advance. Store on a baking sheet lined with paper towels to absorb any extra moisture until ready to plate and serve.
Leftovers: If you have any leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. The fruit will likely soften, but they’ll still be tasty.
I don’t recommend freezing the kabobs, as the fruit will become too soft.
Don’t Let Those Leftover Marshmallows Go To Waste!
The extra fruit is easy enough to add to your Christmas charcuterie boards, but what about the rest of the marshmallows? Here are a few Santa-approved ways to put them to good use:
- Christmas Tree Rice Krispie Treats
- Hot cocoa gift packs (don’t forget to grab a free printable tag to go with it)
- Melting Snowman Cookies
- Choco-Mallow marshmallow squares
