Step-by-Step Directions
To make things even easier for you, I created a simple photo guide below. For all measurements and a more detailed guide, check out the recipe card at the bottom of this page.
Step 1 – Arrange your donuts on a large flat surface such as a platter or plate.
Step 2 – Add a small dollop of chocolate frosting (about ¼ teaspoon) to the center of the donut, where the hole/dip is. (See tips)
Step 3 – Place a sugar eyeball into the middle of each donut, eye side up. Lightly press into the frosting, and enjoy!
Essential Tips:
Don’t skip these tips – read them before starting to avoid any potential mistakes.
- The amount of frosting you use for each donut doesn’t have to be exact. You just want to make sure it’s enough to hold the candy eye in place without oozing out of the sides.
- A frosting bag and small frosting tip makes adding the frosting quick, easy, and less messy.
- The link for the candy eyeballs I used is shared in this post, but you can use any large candy or sugar eyes that you can find.
- I don’t recommend using the small candy eyeballs that are most common in stores. They just don’t have the same impact.
- Try to keep the donuts in a cool, dry area. Too much heat and humidity will make the chocolate coating melt, will keep the candy eyes from sticking, and are likely to just make a mess.

Storage Tips
After you’ve added the candy eyes, it’s best to enjoy them straight away. The chocolate frosting under the candy eyes can cause them to soften over time.
