Step-by-Step Directions:
To make things even easier for you, I created a simple photo guide below. For all measurements and a more detailed guide, check out the recipe card at the bottom of this page.
Step 1 – Thoroughly wash and dry the rosemary sprigs. Set aside.
Step 2 – Pour 2 ounces white grape juice into a champagne flute.
Step 3 – Top with 4 ounces champagne or prosecco.
Step 4 – Garnish with a rosemary sprig and fresh cranberries.
Essential Tips:
Don’t skip these tips – read them before mixing to avoid any potential mistakes.
- Add a gold sugar rim for an extra festive appearance
- Make sure your champagne and grape juice are well chilled. This keeps your mimosas cool and refreshing.
- Pour your champagne correctly Slightly tip your wine glass while pouring, to avoid releasing all the bubbles in a frothy head. This way the bubbles last as long as possible.
- Don’t stir your mimosa. You want to keep all those yummy bubbles in tact.
- Choose the right sparkling wine. You don’t have to spend a lot, but go for a mid-priced Champagne or Prosecco (around $20).
- Definitely serve these in champagne flutes or coupe glasses. Unlike regular wine glasses, champagne flutes preserve the bubbles in your drink.
Adaptations and Variations
- Substitute white cranberry juice for the white grape juice for a tart twist
- Want to make a non-alcoholic version? Instead of champagne, use sparkling cider, sparkling grape juice, ginger ale or Sprite. If adults are enjoying a version with alcohol, remember to find a way to quickly identify which is which. For example, kids can drink out of plastic champagne flutes, or you can garnish the non-alcoholic version with maraschino cherries instead of cranberries.
FAQs:
How can I adjust the sweetness of this mimosa?
For a sweeter mimosa, you can increase the ratio of grape juice to champagne, or you can add a teaspoon or two of simple syrup to your glass. (The leftover simple syrup from candied cranberries would be divine)
To reduce the sweetness, use a less sweet champagne labeled as Brut or Extra Brut. (Extra Dry is actually right in the middle for sweetness.)
What if I can’t find fresh cranberries?
Frozen cranberries will also work (and will keep your drink cold too!) but aren’t as pretty as fresh cranberries.
If you don’t want to use cranberries at all, you can also garnish with red and green grapes for a sweeter twist.
Can I Make this in Advance?
It’s always nice to have drinks pre-mixed in a pitcher for a party, but I don’t recommend it with this mimosa. The sparkling wine will start to lose its bubbles and the drink will become far less refreshing.
