Essential Tips:
Don’t skip these tips – read them before starting to avoid any potential mistakes.
- To make things easier, use a strawberry huller. It makes life so much easier and once you start you will wonder how you ever managed before.
- Carefully wipe the inside of the trifle bowl between layers to make sure each layer shows as nicely as possible
- It is important that you wash all of the fruit before preparing it and adding it to the trifle.
- If you want to make this ahead of time, then you can prepare the fruit and then leave refrigerated in sealed containers until you are ready to assemble. Avoid assembling ahead of time as this is where the fruit and pudding mix will make the angel food cake layers soggy.
More Ways to Enjoy this Recipe:
- You can add other red, white, and blue colored fruit. Purple grapes, white pear or apples, or raspberries will all work well with this trifle.
- You can make your own angel food cake if you wish.
- Add other layers like whipped vanilla cream or smear some strawberry jam onto the cake slices to add a little more red to the trifle’s appearance. This is a great substitute if you don’t want to use strawberries.
- Add some white chocolate to the trifle for extra sweetness.
Frequently Asked Questions:
If you do have any leftovers you can add it to an airtight container and store them in the refrigerator. It is recommended to consume any leftovers within 48 hours. You may find that the texture will have changed due to the softness of the berries.
You can serve up the trifle with other fruit or a fruit salad. You could also look to make some custard and add a dollop of cooled vanilla custard to the bowl of trifle. You may want to serve it as one large dessert as suggested. It does look pretty spectacular when brought to the table.
