How to play Charades
The rules for charades aren’t super strict, so feel free to adapt these for your game players.
Setting It Up:
- Download the file to your computer.
- Open the PDF in Adobe Reader (if you don’t have it, you can download it for free – see below for information about other programs.)
- Print as many copies of the charades cards as you need on white printer paper or cardstock.
- Cut along the outside lines of the cards so they are all separated.
- Place all the clue slips in a bowl, bucket, or basket so players can’t see what is written.
- Play the game and have a blast!
Option 1: Divide into teams
If you have a bigger group, split everyone up into two or three teams. Make sure each team has the same number of players and that all teammates sit together in their own area.
The first team to act out the charade will choose one of its players to perform it. Without looking at the paper slips, the chosen player selects a clue from a bowl.
The selected player then tries to get their teammates to guess whatever is on their slip by acting it out.
The team that guesses the most clues correctly wins!
Option 2 : Play as a Individuals
For small gatherings it’s easiest to play as one group, with one person acting out their word or phrase and the rest of the group guessing.
The person who acts out the most clues that are guessed correctly wins!
The game ends when all the slips of paper are gone. The person with the most correct guesses becomes the ultimate charades champion!
How to Use these Cards to play Father’s Day Pictionary
Feeling a bit more artsy? Turn charades into a drawing challenge!
Pictionary is very similar to charades – instead of acting out the clues, the active player has to draw the clues item without talking or gesturing.
- Use a dry-erase board, paper, or even a tablet.
- One person picks a card and sketches the prompt without saying anything
- Their teammates (or the rest of the group) guess what is being drawn.
- Whoever has the most correct guesses wins.
Important Tips to Remember
Ensure your wish lists come out looking flawless with these quick tips:
- This file works best if opened in Adobe Acrobat. It may be able to open in other programs (e.g. Mac Preview), but I cannot guarantee that it will provide the best printing properties.
- A straight-edge paper cutter makes the cards look a little neater, but scissors will do just fine.
- Set your printer to “Best Quality” mode to bring out the vibrant colors.
- These designs will look best on matte printer paper or white card stock, but you can use regular printer paper as well.
- Add a timer to intensify the hilarity! Set it for 30-60 seconds and watch the room erupt with dramatic, last-second guesses.
- Keep Score Optional – Focus on fun, not competition!
- Personalize the blank cards with inside jokes or local references for an even more memorable experience.
- If you have little kids playing, make sure to use words that they are very familiar with so they can act it out easily.
