Last Minute Advent Calendars

Can it really be true?  Advent starts in just four days!  I am in no way prepared.  We just went and bought all new outdoor decorations (our old cheap ones pretty much bit the dust last year).  Still, I’m so excited for Christmas this year.  T is old enough to remember how much fun it was last year, and is already getting thrilled every time we pass by a house with lights up.

We just bought Elf on the Shelf a few days ago, and have talked about getting/making an advent calendar as well.  If we are truly going to make one, it has to be simple and quick to throw together, because there’s just not much time!

My favorite has to be this sock garland advent calendar from Design Dazzle.  It even comes with printable activity cards – perfect for a last minute gal like me!

Keeping in the same vein as the sock garland, here’s a simple idea of creating an envelope for each day and creating a garland with the results.  (In the Little Red House) I would probably use store bought envelopes and have the toddler help decorate them with crayons, paint, glitter and stickers.  Such a lovely mess that would be!

This paper pocket advent calendar looks adorable and would be a great way to use up the ridiculous quantity craft paper I have sitting around in the craft room. (via Chef Messy)

Here’s the most likely suspect.  Throw a bunch of activities in a jar and pull one out each day.  Get the how-to and some activity ideas over at Simply Radiant.

What do you do to count down the days in Advent?
