Is anyone else shocked that the Superbowl is only a few days away? The Husband and I usually either go to some kind of party, or host a party of our own. This year we’re keeping it simple with just the three of us, and finishing the game late due to T’s ill-timed bedtime.
Well, the Husband has been having a hankering for chili lately; and it’s been shot down by my hormones for nearly two months now. It seems like the morning sickness is finally starting to wane slowly, and so it may be time to make a pot ‘o chili just in time for the big day!
Cincinnati Style Chili

I spent countless vacations visiting family in Cincinnati, and have a special affinity for the Chili. Most people like the three-way; spaghetti, chili and cheese. My favorite was always the Coney Dog: a hot dog on a soft bun with chili, piled high with finely grated sharp cheddar. I can’t find the real stuff anywhere in Maryland, but this recipe from the Food Network seems to come pretty close. Here’s a hint to make it a bit more authentic: Don’t brown the meat before cooking. Just put the raw meat in the water and cook for several hours to get the smooth consistency.

Texans are particular about their meat; and chili is no different. I’d love to try this tomato and bean-free version from Homesick Texan. And the long list of chilies is sure to entice the Husband.
Frito Chili Pie

I’l admit to never even hearing of Frito Chili Pie before the other day, but I’m totally intrigued. If we were hosting a party, this would be a must-have. Seriously, how can you get any better than chili and corn chips right in the bag? (Recipe via Pioneer Woman)
Do you have any special plans for the big day?
