One of my favorite party supplies is fabric. I use it for backdrops, tablecloths, buntings, banners, DIY napkins, table runners, and countless other crafts. It’s easy to re-use the big pieces of fabric. They can be turned into pillows, or new party backdrops, or even fun forts for the kids. But what about the smaller scraps?
But what about the smaller scraps? For a while, I was really into making strippy fabric garlands. They are adorably shabby chic, and don’t require any special tools or skills. But for some reason, I kept those fabric strips. Do you realize how hard it is to re-purpose one-inch strips of fabric?
Why not throw them away? I’ve often thought about it. But fabric is expensive, and the frugal part of me just screams “noooooo!” every time I go to put them in the trash. I’ve fantasized about turning my scraps into fabric twine, but with three kids ages 7 and under, I don’t have time to sit around linking fabric scraps together. (Though there is still hope for some day!)
But then, a few weeks ago, I came up with a perfect idea to use up at least some of those fabric strips. And it gets bonus points for keeping the kids busy too. How’s that for a win-win?! With just scraps from my craft supplies, I pulled together a fun little fabric scrap sensory tub for toddlers. It’s been four weeks since I made it, and all of my kids still love playing with that simple little craft.
Want to learn how to make your own? I’m sharing all of the details today over at The Diary of a Real Housewife, including the funny story that inspired the project, a few different ways to play with the tub, and a video tutorial to show just how easy it is to make one of your own!

Both girls want to play with it! I actually found it in the girls’ room this evening when doing the pre-bedtime cleanup.

That’s a great idea. I love to bring Peachy into my closet so that she can explore all of the fabrics and and things in there. She loves it. Such a simple thing can bring so much joy to little people. #happynowlinkup
