Last year I attempted to lose weight the “easy” way. Basically, I didn’t want to count calories or limit my food intake artificially
Any why would I? I’ve done that before. I used to be so good at Weight watchers that I could look at the nutrition information and tell immediately you the points value. No calculators, no apps – just 3 years of counting under my belt. And did I ever meet my goal using Weight Watchers?
Nope, Not even close.
Then, just before Thanksgiving, something very strange happened for our household-the Husband decided to go on a diet. Suddenly, he was losing all this weight (almost 20 pounds in 2 months!) and we were headed toward an uncomfortable crossroads: if I didn’t change something he would weigh less than me within another month or two.
I know, I know, it’s vain and stupid, but it’s one of those benchmarks I always counted on. And it became a huge motivator. So I’ve calculated my calorie goal and have been doing research on healthy ways to lose weight.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to go jumping on the latest fad diet. Nope, no Paleo, no Atkins, no Macrobiotic, no raw food diet, no vegan or gluten free diet. Just real food, eaten sensibly. The goal is still to take this slowly, but now that I’m used to working out more regularly, it’s time to really focus on what I’m putting into my body.
The focus this year is going to be protein, protein, protein. I don’t want to be skinny fat, so I want to be sure to increase muscle mass in order to stay fit and burn off the fat. And that takes protein. Far more protein than I’ve been getting.
Each month I’ll focus on revamping a meal to include more protein and of course I’ll be sharing all the new recipes with YOU!
January is all about breakfast – which has already been a challenge and we’re only one week in! What am I looking for?
– At least 20g protein
– Whole foods only (no expensive protein powders, please!)
– No added processed sugar, and minimal use of sweeteners like honey, agave, or maple syrup
– Relatively low fat
Do you have any idea how hard that is? So far I’m armed with a few recipes from my Pinterest board, but the search is still on!
